This information about the life of Ghani Khan is essentially insufficient, mostly cut pasted from wikipedia. I think we can try improving on this. Using more harsh pukhtun language, I think, wikipedia should be copying us rather than us copying them.

What you see on Wikipedia is what I entirely cut and pasted from this website’s homepage two years ago, plus what others freely altered/added with time. Some of them also appear to have deleted rather unsavory statements like:

To confine the great Ghani Khan to Pashtoons and Pashto is unfair. I being a Persian Afghan love Ghani Khan a lot. When I want to read the great Khayyam in Pashto I read Ghani Khan’s poetry. There is a great resemblance and harmony between Omar Khayyam’s thinking and Ghani Khan. Though, my Native-tongue is Persian (Farsi). I love Ghani Khan and appreciate the folks who have made this website. The information posted on this page is very inedequate. I suggest to make this webpage a bilingual (Pashto and English) page. All his books both peotry and prose should be added to website. The pictures of sculptures should be added alongside with his own pictures.

Ghani khan is one of the gret pashto poet. His poetry is spirtual as well as romantic, but with true essence of life and emotions. his vision of nature and always he seems to be a super nature.

In the years after 1954/55 I had pleasure to write to a penpale at that time.Here name at that time was SHANDANA GHANI KHAN, daughter of ghani khan; and she gave me a wonderful description of here father and grandfather (the frontier ghandi) and also sent me ghani khan`s book “the pathans” which still is with me. I would like to here more about this famous family and their way of life since that former time. If there would be any person to send me a short e-mail, it would make me very happy, even if somebody could tell me if SHANDANA still lives there and what may be here address/phone or e-mail. thks for any help you may be able to offer me! Pukhtoons living anywhere in the world are great fans of Ghani Baba’s poetry and art. We love his work and are proud of his work, his contribution to art and pukhtoon culture.
I was thinking what I should write here,but nonetheless got my answers reading the comments put by Dr.Arslan Rahatullah, and the answer by Taimur Khan.I think to blame some or to criticise someone is hell easy but to do something for improving and development is hell hard.How many People knew Ghani baba and his creativity in the 70’s and 80’s? Even the Government of our beloved country imposed ban on Baba’s works from time to time.This website is great considering it the first step taken by someone who has introduced Baba to those People who hasn’t seen him or knew him for that matter.Not all who tread are lost.Some People do not learn.

Nothing has been done so far. Although, there are many lovers of late ghani but nobody has evaluated his works seriously. criticism needs knowledge, both of language and literature. Unfortunately, we have critics that lacks one or the other.
No critic has done poetic justice with ghani khan. only praises can not solve the problem. The traditional immature nationalist critics have ruined his works. They, just love him because he was son of Bacha khan and was against priesthood.
Ghani Khan is philosopher peot of Afghan nation. He is the shining star of Pashto literature.

Ghani Khan is the legend of the Pushtoon history.
He left great work as heritage for us and many questions. Most of these questions got their answers and most of them are still waiting.
Great Man Ghani Khan says some prestigious words ,I want to share with all of u Pashtun brothers.
“why i Love Pashtuns because i am, the chief reason why i love him is because “he will wash his face and Oil his beard and Perfume his locks and put on his best Pair of clothes when he goes out to Fight and Die”

I love the poetry and personality of Honorable Ghani Khan Baba. His precious work is a great asset to Pakhtoons. He preserved the rich history of Pakhtoon culture and heritage in his work and poetry, for our upcoming generations. He was the poet of love, beauty and nature. He conveyed the message of peace and wisdom for a Pakhtoon youth. He got an admirable personality, being a youth from his home town, i always admire him and his family. Allah gives peace to his soul and prosperity to his family and friends.

The spring came again, and brought a message,
Of hues, of flowers and of light.
The bartender smiled and brought a full goblet,

A yellow flower I saw in the evening,
Conveying the compliments of my sweetheart.
My mind never accepts that,
The Creator of flower would make the coldest hell.

The green turf, the red flowers;

Diffuses the colours of Mount Sinai in the breeze.
As long as the sight of hues,
Of vortex, of intoxication, is in the man;
Till then I will not admit,
That there will be fires in the hereafter.
My beloved has not made me for punishment;
He has made me for friendship;
He demands from me love, laughter and rapture;
Whether I am in the mosque or in the idol-temple.

Hi, im shah Fahad student of electrical engineering (NUST Islamabad).
Ghani baba the great legend of pukhtoons, was not only a poet but a great philosopher. he conveyed in his poems the message of loving ALLAH but in a very deep think which probably seems to be very difficult to be understand for many of the people. but he who understands them takes much advice from it. I love Ghani khan from the core of my heart.
I appreciate the task of my respected Principal Mohammad Ibrahim who translated his book into english. This book will play a very important role in expressing the feelings of Ghani khan as well as of Pukhtoons to the world.

Ghani khan the beloved son of Fakhre Afghan Khan Abdul Ghafar Khan was, no doubt, a great poet, he always tried to remind his pukhtoon brothers their ancestor, their destiny and their glorious Past.
He through his poetry call upon his pukhtoon brothers why their kids are today hungry and why they are discriminated because of their race?
He reminds pukhtoons to get united and they once again could gain their lost integrity and reassemble their scattered forces just by focusing their vision on Islam and by reminding their Ancestor’s glorious deeds. His over all poetry reflect the true image of Pukhtoons.

Nor a nape as graceful as a swan,s,
Nor narcissus eyes full of drunkenness,
Nor teeth as perfect as pearls of heaven,

I have read Ghani Khan’s poetry and I feel that he is one of the best poets that has come from the area surrounding the hills of Kyber. Somehow the people of that region have always held a fascination for me and I really wish to know more about.

I dont see myself able to say something about Ghani Khan’s personality or poetry! but what i know is that Ghani Khan’s poetry is the precious asset of pukhtoon nation!

I have discovered Ghani Khan’s figure and poetry through Yasir & Jawad’s rendering of “Reidi Gul” (“Tulip”). Thank you for putting up this site and letting us non-Pashtoons learn about Ghani Khan’s poetry, life and works in general. I hope with time more translations of his poems into English are posted here :). Again, thank you for the amazing work and your dedication!

Someone very dear to me is a Pashtoon and he introduced me to Ghani Kahn.
I found this website which gave me good information and was very happy to find a couple of his poems translated in English. These poems I really enjoy and I think he was a very special person.
I am wondering if I am able to fully understand his poems because of my different cultural background and also because I can imagine in the process of translating some of the poetry gets lost.
This website has also helped me to find out more about Pashtoon culture so I would like to thank you for that. In future I hope to see even more translated poems of Ghani Kahn.

Thank you Tairmur Khan for providing us an opportunity to learn more about Ghani Khan. Through out my life, Ghani and his writings have been an ideal for me. I bought his Kulyaat (book) at a time when I could hardly read pashto . Fortunately I learned to read pashto and quickly read most of it.
I had the opportunity to see Ghani Khan in Bolton Block at Lady reading Hospital at Peshawar in 1996. I feel unfortunate that I couldn’t talk to him. His writings have a profound impact on my life, I named my first child ‘Ghani Khan’ here in US.
I have one request to all Pashto writers and intellectuals, please don’t confine Ghani to Pashtonistan or associate him to any political party. His thinking is universal, his voice cannot be confined to geographical boundaries. It is something transcending the religion, race, color and the language we speak.

Ghani khan is a great gift to pushtoo and us. Poet like him is born once in hundreds of years. “Jwandoon” is my fav work of him. The more i get into, the more i am lost in it.
